Pre-weddings, a rising trend in the Indian wedding industry is a time where you and your significant

other will not only be able to spend some quality time together but also a perfect capsule of minutes

to experience, share and flaunt your love to the world, creating memories to cherish for a lifetime.

This is the only time during the wedding season where it would just be the two of you, not

surrounded by all the family members and the pressure of managing an event!

However, as they say, the best things often come with a lot of effort, and to make this day special

would require nothing less. Though it is often considered that the photographer you choose is

responsible for how the photos turn out, we are here to discuss the goof-ups you can avoid to make

sure that everything is smooth sailing from your end.

Ready to plan for your magical day? Let’s get started!

1. Not meeting your photographer

While this dynamic world of technology is working to make everything virtual, there is still

something about sitting down with a person face to face that no call can compete with.

When you think about the person who will be capturing your memories, it is important to

consider what kind of person they are and what kind of setup they are working with. This

will not only get you acquainted with the person clicking your pre-wedding but will also cut

the awkwardness on the day of the shoot in half.

With a wedding photographer springing up in every second corner, it has become more

important to be sure, whether the person can live up to the promises he/she is making on

the phone. The first meeting is no doubt the most important, however, from our 4 decades

of experience, we have found it to be important to plan at least two meetings before the day

of the pre-wedding shoot. This will not only aid in making your shoot smooth sailing but will

also make sure that both parties are on the same page.

2. Not choosing a song before the shoot

Though half the industry works on instinct, we are here to claim that choosing a song before

your shoot is something that can work wonders for your pre-wedding. If you have a clear

idea of the Song of your pre-wedding, it decides the pace of the shoot, the themes you can

choose, and also the kind of clothes and props that can be inculcated in the shoot. This

basically gives you and your photographer/videographer a framework around which you can

now work to create magic.

3. Not deciding on a theme for the shoot in the start

Though every couple works on a flowchart of decisions, we in our 4 decades of experience

have come to find that the choice of theme and the song can be interchanged for one of the

first decisions in your pre-wedding. The theme of the shoot is basically the flavor that you

would want to be incorporated in the photoshoot and pre-wedding video. This can be a

normal candid theme that most people choose, just you and your lover spending time alone,

and a collection of your beautiful moments together comes together to make the video. The

theme is the culmination point of the emotions and pace of the video combined along with

the song, to form a complete favor.

One of the major deciding factors in this is the kind of relationship you shared with your

partner, combined along with the essence of your personality.

Deciding the theme is not as difficult as it sounds, you just have to relay your story and the

kind of relationship that you both share, and your videographer will give you an idea of how

to bring it on the screen. Once decided, you both need to take a step back and trust the

instinct of the professionals to make sure that you get the best portrayal on the screen.

4. Not locking a location a week before the shoot

One could argue that the foreground of the picture is something that can work in deciding

the working of your photo, but we are here to tell you that the background is just as

important. It is important for both you and your photographer to be acquainted with your

location prior to your shoot. This means that deciding and payment for the location should

be done at least a week prior. This will make sure that you both have a vague map of the

place in your mind, which works to make sure both you and your photographer are on the

same page about the best places to shoot and an idea of how the natural light interacts with

the elements and can plan your shots according to the time of the day.

The location choice also works in the flavor of your shoot making it important to make sure

that it goes along the lines with the song and theme of your shoot

5. Making decisions about your Pre-wedding with leisure

Starting your life with the love of your life should not be stressful, and we completely agree.

Having said this, planning for your pre-wedding is something that needs to be treated with

the importance it deserves for it is not just another day. This is the day where you get to

capture and freeze your love in time forever.

Do not stress, for this is not as difficult as it sounds. Just make sure that your channel to your

partner is open and both of you are on the same page about the decision. Along with this

keep your photographer in the loop, and ask for their suggestions before making any big

decisions. They have a creative eye which will give you the idea of how the things will look

on the frame.

6. Not sharing your reference images/videos with your photographer

The pre-wedding shoot is your day to shine and it should be all about you. However,

expecting your photographer to know what you mean without showing him/her a reference

is not only unfair but won’t be the exact thing you are looking for. Giving the reference to

your photographer makes sure they have a visual idea of what kind of a flavor of shoot you

are looking for. This will also make your explanations a lot easier. Once they have this

information, your photographer will be able to give you an idea of what all can be included

in this according to your theme.

7. Planning to skip the Make up Artist

You look beautiful naturally and no one is arguing that, however, creating a complete look in

the photos and videos is something that will be incomplete without a touch-up. The post-

production of the photos and videos often becomes a task, if you end up feeling that the

camera isn’t able to do justice to your look, or if the level of touch-up you did doesn’t go

according to your dress. All of this can be done by simply booking an MUA. What’s more,

your pre-wedding can be a good test of their skills for your wedding day.

8. Refraining from spending on your clothes and accessories

Clothes and accessories are just as important for the planning of your shoot as picking out a

song or choosing your photographer. The attire should not only be matched according to the

color of your location but also match the theme of your shoot. The styling and the genre of

your clothes would depend on the type of song you would be using.

A culmination factor of all the parameters of the pre-wedding (link to the article about the

parameters of prewedding) along with a color combination between you and your partner is

the formula of getting the best photos. Plan this shoot as one of your wedding events, and

find at least two new dresses for the shoot, making sure that you take the suggestion of your

photographer before going for your shopping spree.

9. Faking your relationship to add to your love story

Your love story for your pre-wedding is one of the first things that your photographer will

ask you and it would be the framework of the storyline for your entire shoot. However, this

story is not something that we are looking for you to sensationalize. You should not for one

second feel the need to ‘add’ something to your relationship for the sake of the shoot, and

here is why. If you do that, the video might come out to be good at the moment, but looking

at it down the lane of life, it would feel orchestrated. Your pre-wedding should be about the

purity of what you share with the love of your life without even a pinch overdo.

10. Losing patience on the day of the shoot

The day of the shoot is as important as all the days spend planning it, for it is the day it all

comes to the ground. To make sure everything goes according to plan, everyone sticks to the

shooting schedule, and there are no hold-ups, which can end up being stressful. Due to this,

the entire charm of the day goes and away, and it becomes a mechanical process, and often

leads to people losing their cool as things start getting a little off track.

Before you start the shoot, plan it to the last detail, stick to the timings promised and make

sure that there is no one place you lack. However, there are always some things that will be

out of your control on the day of the shoot, so try not to stress. Just try to do the best you

can in the circumstances that would arise. Keeping calm will not only save the time lost in

freaking out otherwise but also make sure that you are calm and composed to deal with any

problem that might arise.

Prewedding is a short trial run before your main event, a place where it is just the two of your

wrapped up in the love you share, being frozen in time for eternity. This is the time that you can

either continue to make a generic thing or you can make it into something magical with just a touch

of organizational planning. The ball is now in your court.
